Let’s Begin!
Why is Self Care Important?
Life can become incredibly hectic, and it’s easy to find ourselves caught up in the whirlwind of daily responsibilities and the relentless pace that often defines our routines. Between work commitments, family obligations, and personal pursuits, the demands on our time can create a sense of chaos that feels almost overwhelming. As we navigate through this busy landscape, it’s not uncommon to lose sight of what truly matters, as we get swept along in the grind of everyday life.
Hence, that’s why it’s crucial to prioritize self-care and establish a routine.
Detox Baths
Baths are a great way to wind down after a busy day. Additionally, detox bathing offers numerous positive health benefits. Add-ins are my favorite part of taking a bath. I like to add bath salts that are infused with essential oils. Lavender, eucalyptus, rose, and tea tree oil, are my personal favorites!
Here is a list of additional bath add-ins:
- bath salts
- bubble bath
- foaming bath
- bath bombs
- tea baths
- milk
- honey
- flower petals
- caffeine/coffee grounds
Benefits of a Detox Bath
- Promotes good circulation
- improved skin elasticity
- Muscle relaxation
- detox from toxins
- helps to relieve inflammation
- increase magnesium levels
- improves sleep
- relieves headaches/migraines
- reduce stress
Furthermore, you can make your bath an entire experience by dimming the lights, lighting a candle, and playing relaxing music.

Slow Morning Routines
Living a fast-paced life often keeps your mind and body in constant go-mode. While this may be unavoidable at times, consistently rushing can lead to the release of cortisol, a hormone associated with stress. This response is understandable when your body is experiencing a fight-or-flight reaction.
Being intentional about your time off, or better yet, actively creating time to relax, can help your body recover. Aim to give yourself a few days each week to slow down. Starting your day off slowly will take some practice, especially if you are not accustomed to it, so create a plan in advance.
Here are some ways to slow down your mornings:
- Turn off your alarm clock and let yourself claim the sleep you need.
- Watch the sunrise while wrapped in a cozy blanket
- Stay in your loungewear or pajamas for a little longer.
- Enjoy your coffee or morning beverage while sitting down (feel free to go back for seconds).
- Take your time preparing and eating breakfast.
- Don’t rush through getting dressed or your morning skincare/makeup routine.

Extended Bedtime Routine
Instead of collapsing into bed each night after a long day, imagine taking a moment to truly unwind.
Baths can be incredibly beneficial for your body and mind, helping you to slip into a serene state of relaxation. Not only do they soothe your muscles, but they also promote deeper sleep by regulating your body’s temperature. And don’t forget the power of lavender essential oils—known for their ability to induce sleepiness…
Enhancing your bedtime routine can work wonders for a restful night.
Start by incorporating soothing bedtime yoga or stress-relieving meditation. Next, treat yourself to a cup of sleep-inducing tea or another calming beverage. Consider journaling about your day or indulging in a chapter of a book you love. Once you’re settled, light some calming candles and immerse yourself in a relaxing bath. Finally, conclude your evening with a self-massage or a couples massage to melt away any lingering tension.
Goodnight and sleep well!

Fika
Okay, trust me on this one. I only recently learned about what fika was in the last few years. Furthermore, I studied everything I could on the subject and have been practicing ever since!
So what is Fika?
Fika is a Swedish tradition for a coffee break, usually paired with a treat. It’s not just a coffee and snack break, it is a way of life. Fika is a designated time in the day to treat yourself, have a breather, and reset. Essentially, it is an important ritual to connect with yourself or others. And, it doesn’t have to be coffee and a pastry, it can be whatever invigorates you. Designed to take your break on a deeper level, Fika will certainly recharge you.
How do you incorporate Fika?
- Be intentional with your breaks at school or work (don’t continue to work, it will be there when you are done with Fika)
- Take your Fika break at the same time every day
- incorporate healthy snacks during Fika but switch it up now and then. I like to have a pastry or treat on Friday. But I almost always have a piece of dark chocolate during my Fika! The 90% dark chocolate tastes amazing dipped in my tea or coffee (thanks sis for introducing me to this genius 😉
- encourage a friend to join you
- Study the art of Fika. They make some great coffee table books on mastering this way of life
Check out this book from Amazon on Fika. I worked for the school district last year, and this was my end of the year parting gift to my co-workers and friends.

You time
You time can often feel like a foreign concept, especially if you have children, a spouse, and a demanding work or social life. However, what constitutes “you time” can be anything that holds meaning for you.
Start by reflecting on what you love outside of your work or home responsibilities. Is there an old hobby that you used to enjoy but have somehow forgotten about? Is there a book or craft you’ve been meaning to start but never seem to have the time for?
This is where we’ll begin to explore your interests…
Do you enjoy painting or have some other artistic talent? Consider playing an instrument, reading a book, or taking that dance or fitness class you’ve always wanted to try. You might also think about going to a spa for a massage, having a pampering day (whatever that means to you), or even going shopping by yourself without the kids.
You could arrange some flowers in a vase, watch a movie, or try any activity that brings you joy. There’s really no wrong way to have meaningful you time.
XOXO
Journaling
Journaling is a practice highly recommended by many brilliant minds. It provides a safe space to express your feelings and helps you process your thoughts and experiences.
Research shows that journaling can help reduce stress and improve self-awareness, allowing you to better understand yourself. It’s also an excellent tool for writing down goals and reflecting on your aspirations. By journaling, you can track what is working in your life and what isn’t.
Clearly, journaling can enhance your memory, mindfulness, and goal achievement. Give it a try; it might be worth it!

Diet and Exercise
This last tip for self care resolutions to start now for new beginnings, is an expected, and important one.
Diet and exercise are probably the most common New Year’s resolutions on the planet! But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Aiming to be a healthier version of yourself is never a bad goal.
If you are interested in a supplement that is good for your overall health, digestion, aging, weight control and beauty, check out my favorite collagen powder from Amazon. The important thing to remember is to avoid body shaming yourself or others. Everyone, including you, has a different story. People are raised in different environments, and everyone is fighting their own battles. Everyone has their internal struggles in one way or another.
If one of your goals this year is to “get healthy”—whatever that means to you—then congratulations! This is a huge and complex topic that we can only touch on briefly.
The key takeaway is to start small. Make manageable changes to your eating and exercise habits. These small changes will accumulate over time and lead to significant improvements in your overall health.
Small Diet and Exercise Changes to Start Incorporating
- drink more water. I aim for 90 ounces daily. Drinking Herbal tea or supplements count!
- move more. Whatever this means to you. Move more than you do now. You can take the stairs instead of the elevator. Go for a walk during your break instead of sitting. Park further away in the parking lot. Aim for a 10-minute workout video of any kind! Put on your favorite Episode and keep moving until the episode is over…
- Add a small starter salad before dinner every day. I like to add a small salad before lunch and dinner. It ensures I get my veggie quota in for the day. Plus, no produce gets wasted in my house. And, I really enjoy salads.
- Cook your own food at least six days a week. You get to control what ingredients are used.
- Reach for fresh ingredients. Every year my pantry and fridge has slowly changed into an ingredients only kitchen. No more perservatives or added junk for me and my family…80% of the time! Hey, small changes, remember?
- Avoid yo-yo dieting and refrain from signing up for the latest diet trends. Instead, focus on making small, healthy changes that can lead to lasting habits. The goal is to establish lifelong healthy practices. Consider working with a dietitian or healthcare professional for guidance. There are plenty of informative books on the subject, and I highly recommend Jillian Michaels for her expertise in diet, health, and fitness.
