This article focuses on how to enjoy a lazy girl summer. Some refer to this lifestyle as the soft girl era, quiet living, peaceful living, or simply being a homebody. Or even the, “I don’t give a crap era.” I personally favor the lazy girl summer philosophy.
In this article, we will discuss what it means to have a lazy girl summer and how you can embrace this lifestyle, if only for the summer.

Slowing down can be surprisingly difficult if you’re used to going non-stop. Adapting to a “lazy girl summer” may be more challenging than you expect. That’s why I’ve created this article, which outlines small steps you can take to achieve the relaxing, no-fuss summer of your dreams!
Feel free to use as many or as few of these ideas as you like. This is YOUR summer, and it’s time to embrace and live out the lazy girl summer you deserve.
Don’t bother grabbing a pen and paper, that’s not the lazy girl way ;). Instead, try your best to keep in mind the tips that resonate with you the most, and let what will be, will be.
Lazy Girl Summer Tip #1
There are no rules!

Yes, you heard that right. Tip #1 is that there are no rules this summer. The essence of a lazy girl summer is that you don’t have a strict schedule, rules, or guidelines to follow. (Of course, if you work during the day all summer, you can embrace your lazy girl summer after work. Now might not be the best time to tell your boss that Britt Gal says you don’t have to follow their rules.)
So, what does this “No Rules” tip mean exactly? It means you can forget the restrictions of childhood or the expectations of respectable adulthood if you choose to. For example, if you want to enjoy a cup of coffee with dessert even though it’s right before bedtime, go for it! If you’re craving a mimosa on a Wednesday morning and don’t have to drive to work, treat yourself to a fresh and fruity mimosa. If you want to jump into the swimming pool fully clothed because you’re too lazy to change into your swimsuit, don’t let anyone stop you. Moreover, if you’ve been invited out for a night on the town but would rather stay in your bed with a nice glass of red wine and binge-watch a popular TV series, do what makes you happy!
Another Lazy Girl Summer Tip #2
Eat the foods that don’t require a lot of time, prep, or cooking.

You’re not living a lazy girl summer if you find yourself cooking in the kitchen for most of it. Don’t get me wrong, cooking can be super enjoyable and is way healthier for you than constant take out or fast food. I am not telling you to go out to eat, and I’m definitely not telling you to eat your way through the junk food aisle. Instead, you are going to reach for healthy and flavorful foods that require little to no prep. Some of my favorite foods only require a small about of time to batch create or a little bit of effort initially, but then we are enjoying them for days!
Here are some of my favorite lazy summer dishes and sides:
- watermelon (pre-cut or use a melon baller one day and enjoy all week!)
- healthy pasta salads (I love creating healthy and colorful variations of a pasta salad. I opt for ones that can be served cold or even heated up for a different experience)
- fruit salads (experiment with mixing different fruits together, most don’t even require sugar, but I won’t say no to one mixed with home-made whipping cream … YUM!)
- large pitchers of sun tea (We love making green tea, herbal tea, and the standard black tea for iced-tea) Simply place several tea bags in a glass jar, fill with cold filtered water, screw the lid on, and set outside until the desired color/strength of the tea occurs.
- Pre-cut meat to throw on the grill (use different marinades for new flavors. Grilling means less dishes to clean).
- Pre-cut and pre-washed veggies to throw on the grill
- Boiled eggs for quick breakfasts
- Ready made yogurts
- Chia pudding made ahead of time (put 3 TBPS of chia seed in glass jar, fill with coconut milk and let set over night (sometimes takes a few nights to set if too much liquid. When ready, add in honey or maple syrup, fresh fruit and enjoy!)
- dried fruits
- Variety of nuts
- Pre-made charcuterie boards (we like lunch meat, salami, crackers, cheese, nuts, fruit, pickles, olives, precut veggies)
- Variety of Deli meat, salami and cheese for sandwiches
- Finger foods such as hot dogs, hamburgers, or crockpot meatballs (try adding pineapple and grape jelly and BBQ sauce to your meatballs in a crock pot and let simmer)
Lazy Girl Summer Tip #3
Go Slow!

One reason you might be attracted to a “lazy girl summer” is your desire to slow down. To achieve this, it’s important to be intentional with your time, pace, and focus on truly relaxing. I understand that if you start work early in the morning, your routine may feel rushed, and that’s completely fine! However, to help slow things down, consider waking up a bit earlier. It might seem counterproductive to our lazy girl goals, but trust me—getting up earlier allows you more time for yourself to enjoy a book, sip your coffee, watch a TV show, or play with your dogs. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to move at a more leisurely pace throughout your day.
If waking up earlier is not an option for you, you can always fulfill your lazy girl dreams by taking it slow on the weekend. In fact, I insist that you do!
Here are a few things you can slow down:
- waking up and getting out of bed
- morning routine/self care routine
- Showers & baths
- your daily walk
- making or enjoying breakfast seated down
- doing your chores
- crafting
- reading a good book
- lounging at the pool
- your vacation itinerary
- shopping
- sitting at the coffee shop or restaurant
Lazy Girl Summer Tip #4
Make time to do the things you love with no guilt!

Doing the things you love with feeling any shame or guilt is key for a successful lazy summer. Maybe you should be folding laundry, but instead you’d rather sit outside before it gets too hot and read your book. Well take it from this mom of four, the laundry will still be there later, so go read while the weather and temperature is perfect!
Let yourself off the hook from your daily routines. All of your chores will still be there after you take a little time doing what you really want to do. Everything will get done. It’s not the end of the World if you fold you laundry at the hottest part of the day or at night right before bed, or maybe not even until the next morning.
Lazy Girl Summer Tip #5
Lounge at the pool!

Is it even summer if you’re not lounging by or in a pool? I don’t think so, but maybe I’m just biased because we wouldn’t survive the hot summer temperatures without it.
There’s something magical about relaxing in or near the pool. It feels like your body and mind finally embrace the season, signaling that it’s time to unwind. Once you’re in the water, floating without a care in the world, time seems to slow down. The warmth of the sun soaks into your skin, and your body relaxes to the point of pure contentment.
To enhance your pool experience, curate a selection of music or simply enjoy the tranquility. Prepare some fruit salad and mix up a refreshing summer cocktail or mocktail.
If you don’t have a pool of your own, gather your supplies, put on your bathing suit, and head to the nearest pool, ocean, or lake. Enjoy the summer vibes wherever you can!
Lazy Summer Girl Tip #6
Create a Capsule Wardrobe!

Just as with preparing food and meal items, creating a capsule wardrobe will take time initially, but once you have curated your perfect summer capsule wardrobe, it will be well worth the energy. The great thing about a summer capsule wardrobe, or any capsule wardrobe, is that once you’ve put the work in, you get to reap the benefits all summer (or year) long!
Creating a capsule wardrobe is part of this lazy summer girl guide because it takes the guess work out of what to wear each day. I have created an entire article on the art of capsule wardrobes HERE, but I’ll still give a quick version of what a capsule wardrobe is …
A capsule wardrobe is a thoughtfully curated collection of clothing items based on a foundation of staple pieces that can be mixed and matched effortlessly. Typically, a capsule wardrobe takes a minimalistic approach, aiming to have as few but versatile clothing items as possible to maximize outfit options. The beauty of this type of wardrobe is that you can still showcase your style by selectively choosing each piece.
Here are the essentials you’ll need for a summer wardrobe!
*Note: You can swap for different colors to match your unique style, but most capsule wardrobes are done in neutral colors, so everything works together and takes the guesswork out of matching pieces to form an outfit.
The colors I used here and use in my own personal wardrobe are white, off-white, beige, black, light blue, Olive or Sage Green, (check the end of this post for buyable links from Amazon that will have all the basics you need!)
- 1 white pants jeans
- 1 basic blue jeans (boyfriend fit with or without holes)
- 1 relaxed trousers (I like the look of tan or beige)
- 1 white shorts
- 1 black shorts
- 1 tan shorts
- 1 relaxed-fit linen shorts (olive, beige, khaki, white or black)
- skirt
- dress
- 1 button-down striped shirt
- 1 black linen shirt
- 1 white short-sleeved shirt (preferably button down)
- 1 beige camisole
- 1 white tank top
- 1 black tank top
- plain T-shirt
- Jean jacket (or other lightweight jacket)
- 1 tan sandals
- 1 black sandal
- 1 heeled dressy sandals
- 1 activewear sandals for walking or hiking
- sneakers
- bathing suit
- 1 active wear outfit (for the gym or a quick run)
- 1 wide-brimmed hat
- 1 baseball cap
- 1 skinny belt
- 1 cross-body bag
- 1 basket bag
